Temple of deified Zeus

In Cyrene, it is the largest Greek temple in Libya dedicated to the great Greek goddess Zeus. It is considered the second largest temple in the list of temples dedicated to the worship of the great Greek deities, after the temple and altar of "Zeus" and "Hera" in the holy city of Olympia.

The construction of the temple dates back to the 5th century BC, when it was built with huge columns in the classical Doric style. It was demolished after the rebellion of the Jews in Medina between 11-117 AD. It was rebuilt by Emperor Commodus. The temple is 70 x 32 meters in size, with two rows of classic Doric columns. The temple had a statue of Zeus twelve times the size of an average human. In Roman times, Emperor Augustus presented a replica of the famous statue of Zeus carved by the sculptor Phidias, while other emperors gave similar gifts, leaving only the head and some fingers of the hand displayed in the temple.
